Software Group is a global technology company specialized in digitalization and integration solutions for financial service providers.
The company currently employs over 350 people and serves more than 200 customers out of its 9 regional offices in Australia, Bulgaria, Egypt, Ghana, India, Kenya, Mexico, the Philippines, and the USA.
Because of its rapid expansion, Software Group started exploring opportunities to upgrade its training process and to make resources easily available to employees worldwide. In 2017, the company approached Melon Learning as they were looking for a platform through which to introduce a vast variety of specific internal courses, especially training materials related to their products.
Software Group’s employees require access to training resources year-round and have to refresh their knowledge on a regular basis. Automated repetitive training schedules, delivered through Melon’s learning management system together with content storage, and the opportunity to track and measure the learning progress was the right solution at the right moment.
Melon Learning provided an intuitive platform featuring an easy-to-use English interface for both trainees and administrators. The system is an on-premise solution linked to the company’s Active Directory for security reasons and supports automated user updates. It offers both regular and targeted training for the different departments.
Unlike other clients, Software Group very often uses subject matter experts’ videos for internal training. They can be live or pre-recorded and then uploaded to the platform.
The partnership between Software Group and Melon led to LMS functionality improvements which helped address the growing needs of the client. Occasionally, staff from Software Group’s partnering organizations may need to be trained as well. Initially, the system did not allow for the registration of users outside of the company. To crack the problem, our team reworked the integration to enable the client to create additional user profiles.
Also, the profiles of employees who had left the organization were set to be deleted automatically. This problem was handled by replacing deletion with deactivation, which allowed users to stay in platform reports and data related to their training activity to be pulled out in future reports.
Another issue was tracing the time spent in training. If a user paused a video to tend to other tasks, the system counted the paused time as time spent on the platform, thus distorting the statistics. Melon is currently working on adjusting the functionality, so it only recognizes user interaction while a video is playing. This will ensure that user statistics are way more accurate. We will also develop customized reports to address the specific training KPIs of Software Group.
We implemented a user-friendly learning management system that improves the training process while saving time and money. Our client explains that existing resources, such as pre-recorded videos and materials, are used to onboard new employees, saving them time. New onboarding materials are the same regardless of location, and users can access them anywhere, anytime. Software Group effectively assesses and tracks employees’ development over time. They use the platform not only for training purposes, but also to accommodate internal processes and policies, and to align industry specific knowledge and product knowledge. The overall number of courses is approximately 100. On a quarterly basis, the active LMS users are 110, with 10 new e-learning courses created, and about 170 hours spent in e-learning.
